Trisector Antenna Mounts
During my 12 weeks as a mechanical engineering intern at CommScope, I was tasked with designing trisector antenna mounting solutions to overhaul the current set of existing solutions which lacked vital versatility. To accomplish this, I first consolidated these existing models into an accessible directory highlighting key features. I then created numerous design iterations using SOLIDWORKS and Ansys until I arrived at and proposed two unifying solutions that lowered weight, improved ease of installation, and broadened usage applications while maintaining all functionality of previously existing solutions. Implementation of these unifying solutions offered simplification of manufacturing and increased profits. Throughout the design process, I led meetings with and collaborated frequently with Product Management, sales directors, overseas engineering teams, and clients to ensure the demand and utility of new solutions. With the approval of my proposal, I then directed development of my solutions through the conclusion of the internship. Working at CommScope taught me numerous important skills, both technical and interpersonal. I developed strong communication capabilities and gained experience in presenting myself and interacting with peers in professional settings, as well as bolstering my teamwork skills through being in constant collaboration with other teams and individuals. I obtained the expertise to discuss detailed technical concepts with other engineers, but also learned to concisely convey essential information and high-level concepts through presentations to senior management.
I also went on some exciting trips! As I cannot disclose details of the work from this internship at this time, I will instead share a picture taken of me during a tour of AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys! This trip was taken during the internship as AT&T stadium is one of CommScope's major successes, implementing all connectivity and network infrastructure in the stadium to handle network traffic for one of the busiest stadiums in the country!
